3. Poisonous Frog

The poison dart frog lives in the rainforests of Central and South America, with a length of between 1.5 and 6 cm. The Indians used the toxic secretions of the frog to poison the tips of the darts at once, giving their name to the frog. The secretions, which are being studied in medical trials, can also be used as muscle relaxers, appetite suppressants and heart stimulants. Their bright colours form "aposematic patterns", which serve to ward off predators by suggesting unpleasant toxicity. There are about 175 closely related species of poisonous frogs that vary in size and colouration. The most colourful are the 5 within the genus dendrobates.

4. Swallowtail hummingbird

The swallowtail hummingbird lives in eastern and central South America. It prefers semi-open areas, scattered forests, coastal regions and gardens, but will avoid the dense tropical forest. It has a long forked tail that comprises half the length of 16 cm of the bird. Its plumage is a mixture of green, blue and purple, and its wings beat at about 20 beats per second, allowing it to float while feeding on flower nectar. They are aggressive towards other birds and will go up in flames or attack birds as big as hawks!

Live in the Indian and Pacific oceans.

6. Caracal

The caracal gets its name from the Turkish words kara kulak, which means "black ear". It has a series of adaptations that allow it to live in a wide range of habitats. These include its long, tufted and highly flexible ears that help it hear the smallest sounds, and the powerful hind legs that allow it to jump several meters into the air to catch birds. They also eat small mammals, gazelles and reptiles. The caracal lives in Africa and the Middle East and can grow up to one meter long, plus a 30 cm tail.

7. Colobus Red Zanzibar

The red colobus of Zanzibar is a monkey that lives alone in Zanzibar, an island off the coast of Tanzania. They are an endangered species that leaves no more than 3000 in their natural habitat. The people of Zanzibar have negative views about the animal and call them "poisonous monkeys" because of their unusual smell. They live in groups of up to 50 individuals, with a 1: 2 ratio of men to women. The red colobus eats leaves, seeds and flowers found in forests, coastal areas and marshes. They also eat immature fruit because they can not break down the sugars into ripe fruit. It is known that they eat coal to help digestion.

8. Black kingfisher

It lives in Southeast Asia and in India near streams and rivers in forested and well-shaded areas. These martinescos eat insects and snails, as well as small lizards, frogs and crabs on the riverbank. They build nests in the shape of a tunnel on the banks of rivers that can be up to one meter long. These nests may take more than a week to dig.
